"THE FIRE'S LAUGHTER" contest by ELOUNDA SOLFEZ VILLAS.
The "Fire's Laughter" Riddle
I lay in the deep, still listening to them, whispering my Legend
From Light to a Warrior I evolved in the consciousness of men, with a Divine Order
When they did not allow me, my new Master to join, I jumped into the fire, dreadful their fate was
From a central city’s start, I allowed no walls to be risen on my Land, on flying rocks my Peace was built
If ever on my way the secret salutation you must know
From the word of justice I practice reading the plaques of Truth, with a cry of irony & madness I weave the Fear if I want to and call upon the Death
Protector of a Mistress, of a Mistress’ spell left me to perish, the ones I share my blood with, lone habitants of the Mountain
Say my Name to indulge into the Cretan Sun…
...and the winner is: Mrs. Meredith Hansen from U.S.A.
Mrs. Hansen won a 7 nights stay for 6 persons, in a three bedroom Elounda Solfez Villa, plus a full fridge with Cretan Delicacies!
The answer to the Riddle is Talos! Talos has many legends weaved around him. He was considered to be...
...a Sun Deity (Talos = Sun)
...a 30m mecahnical man, protector of Crete, by order of Zeus
...protector of Europa, mistress of Zeus mother of Minos
...a judge responsible to uphold the law on the villages outside the Minoan cities
His base was Festos and from there he would run the perimeter of Crete three times per day and cast stones to any threatening ships approaching the island.
He would destroy those that would manage to set foot on the island, by jumping into their camp fires, set himself on fire and embrace them. His laughter of triumph at that moment was named Sardonic.
He was driven to his death by the spells Medea, mistress of Jason (Argo).
